"RedOxygen's email to SMS product allows Swisscom Mobile subscribers to send and receive SMS from their desktops." RedOxygen, an Australian based software development company, announced today that major European telecommunications carrier Swisscom Mobile has launched RedOxygen's flagship email-to-SMS product to its 3.6 million mobile subscribers in Switzerland. Swisscom Mobile, the number one wireless carrier in Switzerland, is now offering a customised version of RedOxygen's product on their website under the name DesktopSMS (www.swisscom-mobile.ch/desktopsms). This product allows users of the popular Microsoft email application Outlook (97, 98, 2000 & XP) to send and receive SMS messages and calendar reminders from their desktops, all as easily as sending an email. RedOxygen CEO, Tom Sheahan, said that Swisscom Mobile's launch of DesktopSMS is a key example of the changing nature of SMS. "SMS messaging is growing up", said Mr. Sheahan. "People used to think that SMS was only for kids, but we believe that SMS is extremely important to the future of business communications." RedOxygen has thousands of business users utilising our SMS software to make their companies more successful, but Swisscom Mobile is one of the first major telcos to recognise the power of SMS as an everyday business tool", said Sheahan. "We have made SMS simple to use, secure to operate, cost effective to utilise and easy to integrate with existing technology. Swisscom Mobile subscribers can now pay for the messages they send from their desktops on their standard mobile bill, which makes the product even more attractive". Mr. Sheahan said that RedOxygen's email-to-SMS products are a good way for wireless carriers such as Swisscom Mobile to continue to expand their SMS business. "The SMS market is still growing strongly and the fastest growing segment of the market is the corporate sector", observed Sheahan. "There is a strong desire for effective SMS tools in the business marketplace but, to date, that desire has gone largely unfulfilled. Our products make SMS easy and effective to use in a business setting, so we represent a good way for a carrier like Swisscom Mobile to meet that important need and continue to drive SMS traffic in the process". Swisscom Mobile product manager Josef Kremer said that their release of RedOxygen's product expanded the communications options of Swisscom Mobile's customers. "DesktopSMS introduces a new type of mobile connection into one of the key areas our customers' working environment, the desktop. With DesktopSMS, our subscribers now have a new communications option for reaching customers, clients and staff. Swisscom Mobile is always looking for effective new communications solutions to bring to our subscribers, and RedOxygen's product fits in very well with that mission". RedOxygen plans to keep its momentum going in the months ahead. "There were over sixteen billion SMS message sent in western Europe last month alone", said Mr. Sheahan. "Our products are already in use around Australia and Europe, but there is plenty of room for expansion. We are in discussions with several other telcos to push these products to literally millions of mobile subscribers".
