Microsoft Office XP users will now be able to send and receive SMS messages directly from their desktop using a new tool that has been specifically developed for the Office XP platform by Australian-based RedOxygen. Showcased today at the Business Options 2003, a new informative forum for small businesses, xpSMS will enable users to improve communications with key contacts, reduce costs and increase business productivity. xpSMS is fully integrated into Microsoft Office XP and sits on the user's Outlook toolbar. Users can send an SMS to anyone in their personal address book or global address list, or enter a new mobile phone number directly into a new mail. Recipients can simply send a reply back to the originator's email inbox. xpSMS can also send an SMS reminder of any crucial event or appointment that has been logged in the Outlook calendar. xpSMS takes advantage of the Smart Tag features in Microsoft Office XP, which means that mobile numbers in Word, Excel or Outlook files are recognised and users have the option of sending an SMS directly from within the document - a valuable time-saving feature that keeps people connected. Kevin Burke, director small business division, Microsoft Australia, said: "The ability to be able to send SMS directly between the desktop and a mobile phone is a natural evolution of emailing. Microsoft Australia is pleased to support xpSMS, which clearly demonstrates how partners are developing innovative applications that allow end users to take advantage of the Office XP platform". Oz Experience, an Australian bus tour company, demonstrated the benefits of the new solution at Business Options 2003.
